Literature Text
My hand is in my pocket, the assumption of a gun,
Fight or flight? you turn and grab the hand of your son,
A parking lot of swaying lights,
Shadows dance and prepare for fights,
I step closer, my destination is known,
The gap between, you, your son then finally my home,
I can hear the sweat fall down your face,
My voice hides so I slow my pace,
The size and shape of my body is only part of me,
The book of stereotypes is only relevant if the opposite you see,
Your son attempts to look back,
His youth can see me, you see a shadow in the black,
The child of time only becomes nervous as his mother starts to shake,
Her look is of the mind of an adult, thus only can he take,
They approach the exit, attempt to open the door,
She finds relief, an open door will bring forth the idea of law,
Protection in numbers, her well being soon,
The assumptions of security dancing under the silver moon,
The door is locked, the other door hides on the other side,
She picks her son up, on her shoulders for a ride,
My hand is in my pocket, the assumption of a gun,
My hand hold a phone, I shake my head as she begins to run.

Mother
You told me to not swear, yet you would swear at me daily You told me to not lie, yet you would lie to me everyday You told me that you loved me, yet I was a burden to you daily. You told me that I needed to be perfect, but what was perfection in your eyes? You told me that I failed you, but you failed me all my life You told me that you would protect me, but I needed protection from you You told me that I wasn't allowed to cry, but you were the one that made me cry You told me that you would help me, but I was the one always helping you Everyday the words still haunt me, but each day you told me to move on Everyday I can vision your anger, but each day I pretended it never really happened Everyday I hear your voice, but each day I tell myself what you have told me Everyday I needed your protection, but each day I reminded myself that I had to do this alone Mom, I still cant forget the things you have said and done, but each day i grow stronger Mom, apologies wont change a damn

Nothing and Everything
I ain't got much for nobody,
I ain't got much of anything.
But I've got you, and that means a lot
Cos you're my everything.

Broken Children
We are God's broken children
He is cruel. He beats our heads in
And calls it love. No more. (I am due more than pain.)
I won't take His cruel kindness again.
I will find some new god more like me:
One beaten, broken, treated cruelly.
Blamed for his own pain and his disgrace,
Humble enough to be a god only in lowercase.
